The following are the correct methods for using Bacillus amyloliquefaciens to improve the growth performance of farmed animals:
1、 Product selection
Strain identification and quality control
Select Bacillus amyloliquefaciens products with clear strain numbers and strict identification. The characteristics and efficacy of different strains may vary. For example, some specific strains that have been screened may exhibit better enzyme production or antibacterial performance. You can view the strain source, identification report, and other relevant information of the product to ensure that its quality and activity meet the requirements.
Priority should be given to products produced by legitimate manufacturers, who usually have strict production processes and quality control standards to ensure the purity, viable cell count, and other indicators of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. The product label should clearly indicate the number of live bacteria (for example, how many billions of live bacteria are contained per gram of product), which is an important factor in measuring product quality.
Formulation selection
Powder: Powder is a common dosage form. When using powders, attention should be paid to their stability and storage conditions. Generally speaking, the storage requirements for powders are relatively simple, they can be stored in a dry and cool environment. But before use, it needs to be activated with a suitable solvent (such as warm water, etc.) and prepared into a bacterial solution according to the requirements of the product manual. For example, some powder products may need to be soaked in warm water at 30-37 ℃ for 30-60 minutes before use to activate Bacillus subtilis.
Liquid: The liquid form of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens is relatively convenient to use and can be directly added to feed or drinking water. However, the shelf life of liquid products is relatively short, and they need to be stored under refrigeration conditions. It is also important to avoid prolonged exposure to light and high temperatures to avoid affecting the activity of live bacteria.
2、 Usage method
Feed addition
Pre mixed material addition: Bacillus amyloliquefaciens can be added to the pre mixed material. Generally, when making premix, it is recommended to add 100-500 grams of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens per ton of premix according to the recommended dosage of the product, and mix it thoroughly with other premix ingredients such as vitamins and minerals. This method can ensure the even distribution of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in the feed, allowing animals to continuously ingest Bacillus during the feeding process, thereby exerting its regulatory effect on gut microbiota and promoting nutrient digestion and absorption.
Directly added to full price feed: If no premix is used, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens can also be added directly to full price feed. The usual addition amount is 200-1000 grams per ton of full price feed. When adding, it is necessary to first mix the Bacillus amyloliquefaciens product with a small amount of feed to make a "premix", and then fully mix this "premix" with the remaining large amount of feed to avoid situations where the local concentration of live bacteria is too high or too low, ensuring that animals can evenly ingest Bacillus.
Drinking water addition
Add Bacillus amyloliquefaciens to drinking water in appropriate proportions. The general product instructions suggest adding 0.1-0.5 grams of the product per liter of drinking water (the specific ratio may vary depending on the product). Before adding, ensure that the drinking water is clean and avoid disinfectants (such as chlorine agents) in the water that may affect the activity of Bacillus subtilis. You can activate the Bacillus amyloliquefaciens product with a small amount of clean water first, then add it to a large amount of drinking water and stir evenly. Animals ingest Bacillus subtilis through drinking water, which is a good way to supplement for some animals that do not like to consume feed containing additives. Moreover, adding Bacillus subtilis to drinking water can help it reach the intestines more quickly and exert its effects.
3、 Usage time and dosage control
Usage time
Young animal stage: The gut microbiota of young animals has not yet been fully established, and the use of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens is more effective at this stage. For example, adding Bacillus amyloliquefaciens to feed or water 3-7 days after birth can help piglets quickly establish a healthy gut microbiota, promote intestinal development, and improve their survival rate and growth rate. Adding 1-3 days after hatching can help promote early intestinal colonization and improve the adaptability of chicks to feed.
Stress stage: Animals are prone to an imbalance in their gut microbiota when faced with environmental changes (such as quorum shifting, transportation, climate change, etc.) or disease stress. Early or timely addition of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens during these stress stages can help animals maintain stable gut microbiota and alleviate the impact of stress reactions on animal growth performance. For example, within one week after the beef cattle are transported to the new farm, continuous addition of Bacillus amylolyticus in the feed can effectively reduce the incidence rate of beef cattle and make them adapt to the new environment faster.
Dose control
Strictly follow the recommended dosage in the product manual. Low doses may not achieve the expected effects, such as ineffective regulation of gut microbiota or promotion of nutrient digestion and absorption. Excessive dosage may cause some adverse reactions, for example, excessive use of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens may lead to excessive competition among gut microbiota, which in turn affects normal physiological functions of the gut. Moreover, factors such as the type, age, and weight of different farmed animals can also affect the adjustment of dosage. For example, the dosage for adult pigs and piglets may vary. Generally, the dosage for adult pigs is relatively high, but it should also be adjusted reasonably according to the actual situation and product instructions.
4、 Environmental coordination
Management of feeding environment
Maintaining a clean and hygienic breeding environment is an important condition for fully utilizing the role of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Good ventilation conditions can reduce the concentration of harmful gases (such as ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, etc.) and decrease the number of pathogens in the environment. For example, in a chicken coop, a reasonable ventilation system can keep the air fresh, reduce the occurrence of respiratory diseases, and also facilitate the role of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in the chicken intestinal tract, as it reduces the interference of external pathogens on the gut microbiota.
Regular cleaning of feces and replacement of bedding are also crucial. Feces contain a large amount of pathogenic bacteria and harmful substances. If not cleaned up in a timely manner, it can increase the risk of animal infections and may offset the positive effects of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens on improving intestinal health and growth performance. Regularly removing feces and conducting harmless treatment in pig pens can create a healthy environment conducive to pig growth.
Water quality management (for aquaculture)
Ensuring good water quality is an important prerequisite for using Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in aquaculture. Regularly check water quality, including water temperature, pH value, dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen and other indicators. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens can better perform its function of decomposing organic pollutants and purifying water quality under appropriate water quality conditions, such as pH 6.5-7.5 and sufficient dissolved oxygen. If the water quality is too poor, such as low dissolved oxygen or high or low pH value, it will not only affect the activity of Bacillus, but also have adverse effects on the growth of aquatic animals. Therefore, while using Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, it is necessary to combine appropriate oxygenation equipment and water quality control measures (such as changing water, using water quality regulators, etc.) to maintain good water quality.
